Black Madeira

The Black Madeira is a very personal fig to me.  It is the only fig that I collect from many different sources. My origional BM,  is what I call the "OG Black Madeira".  This OG BM, I recieved about 15 yrs ago from an older fig guy named "Bob" in LongIsland NY.  To me, it is still the BEST out of all the BM I have ever seen, including all the other similar varieties that I own,  which are Figo Preto, Craven, and Black Tuscan.  I will be posting more pics soon of this strain, but for now enjoy the pics of the OG BM, Negra Madeira MP, and another BM in my collection.  I have to say that I have found that the OG BM takes the longest to grow and it is the slowest to ripen, basically in all aspects it is very slow, but I believe that this is due to the theory of a diamond, it takes a long time, but the result is close to perfect.

Paratjal Rimada

The "PJR", It is a great growing fig, and depending on the frequency of watering or rainfall the outside of the fig can be more of a pinkish hue, like a blush, or less water a little darker.  In the bottom picture I compared it to the CDDR.  I have a thing where I like to compare all of my striped figs that are green/yellow.  Be sure to check out the homepage for other pictures of ripening.

Sangue Dolce

This is a nice tasty fig.  For me it grows really well and I get a significant amount of fruit.  It is one of my main crops that I eat due to how much fruit it puts out.  Depending on the time of year, you can get interesting variations of this fig that are fun.   The bottom right picture is of a Sangue Dolce fig that was was grown in the greenhouse, light brown, and the other outside all year, which appears to have a small breba in the spring.  I have to say that little breba was absolutely delicious.  It was definately the best tasting fig that came off that tree.  You do not get too many brebas, but if you are lucky enough to get one they definately are worth the taste.

Bordissot B/N

This is my first year of this fig ripening for me.  It does a really nice transformation over a few days.  Unfortunately, I was not able to try this fig due to we got a lot of rain here the week it was ripening and it split on me and the fruit flies got to it.

Long D'Aout

This is another fig from "Bob".  I enjoy this fig a lot.  It is not the sweetest or most tastiest fig I have ever had, but it definately has it place.  When you are looking for good fiber or even a good fig to cook with this one is my pick.

CDD B/N

The one thing I have noticed about this fig is that the blanca and negra ripen at different times, i've tried many times to get them ripening together, but in the picture below the negra needs a little more time, maybe a day or two and the blanca is soft, but just not there yet, i would say about another week.

Galacia Negra

This fig is ever elusive to me.  I have tried many times to get a fully ripe one, but it has such a strong scent that I think that the fruit flies are on it before it ever gets ripe.  I came close last year to a ripe one and it smelled like a good red wine.  I was almost curious to ferment it.

White Madera #1

For me, this is a very early ripener in the spring.  I get a good harvest and they have a good taste.  They have a taste closer to adriatic with a hint of the cherry taste from CDDRimada

This Fig is my ABSOLUTE Favorite!
For me it is delicious.  It is the taste of a mix of so many figs and I have devoted a half to one acre of land on my farm just to have rows of this one fig.  The OGBM used to be my favorite, but this one just trumped it.  I love how it grows too, it is small, green with white stripes and it grows mostly straight up.  You know when it is ripe because it is like bannana yellow, with some dark blemishes like a bannana and the stripes go away.  The center is like a light golden Jam.  It has more of a taste toward the berry side of the fruits.

Paratjal MP

This fig took a few years to get a true ripening for me, it does look like the Parajtal Rimada MP at full ripening and taste very similar....

Craven

I purchased this fig as cuttings to add to my genetic variants of Black Madeira.  This fig does not grow extremely fast mostly due to it gets a massive crop of figs.  If you remove the figs then it will grow well again.  The figs are bigger than your standard BM.  I have not found the taste to be much different than the standard BM.  But the OG BM still has, in my opinion, a stronger and better overall taste.

Black Ischia

I was very excited to get this fig.  I have known Bob for over 15 years and this was his mother Black Ischia.  He decided to retire from figs this year and he sold me his collection.  His collection mostly consisted of the old BellaCare Nursery figs.  This is the real deal.  I have been dealing with this fig for many years and it is very difficult to grow.  It is known for its tough FMV.  I did not take a picture of the fig that actually ripened this year and more are ripening soon, but I did get this picture of nice new growth, non FMV.  More Pictures of this fig will be coming soon.

I would say this is my 3rd favorite fig overall.  It does a really nice transformation and is such fun to watch day after day.  It is also very tasty.

This fig is more sentimental to me.  It is a family heirloom on my wife's side that came diretly from Sicily.

This fig is one of the tough buggers to grow.  I look foward to sharing pics soon.

Oro

This fig is a vigorous grower.  It seems to produce a lot of figs, but I have trouble getting one to fully ripen.  It's supposed to be Oro Rosatto, but we will see when it ripens.

Val's Violet

Val's Violet is an original fig from Bob. I have never seen it anywhere else. It is a small, tart tasting, very refreshing fig. I have nicknamed it the "cherry fig" because it's size and taste mimic a cherry. I am not sure but it could be an old BellaCare fig because that was the source of most of Bob's figs.

Guess....

This is a fun one.  I have put this here for all the fig lovers to try and guess what this is.  Hint it is not any of the figs out there for sale right now.  Also, as it ripens I will be adding pics.
